Martha O'Bryan Center is an anti-poverty non-profit organization with longstanding history and deep community roots, grounded in tradition and strengthened by innovation. Founded in 1894 when Miss O'Bryan organized the Gleaners Society at First Presbyterian Church to support impoverished North Nashville residents, Martha O'Bryan Center has operated from the heart of Cayce Place - Nashville's most distressed community - since 1948. This is where we continue in service, partnering with Cayce Place families to open doors of hope and possibility, create a culture of attainment, and positively shape future generations. Service members help Martha O'Bryan Center serve more than 12,000 clients each year through a comprehensive continuum of services including early learning education, youth development, job placement, family resources, and social services. This opportunity is for an 11 month AmeriCorps term. Service time is 9 am - 5 pm. At MOBC, our AmeriCorps members get an additional $500/month for a housing allowance! Member Duties : Assist the Food Security Coordinator with operating the Food Bank, which includes stocking, building relationships with Food Bank patrons, and volunteer engagement Collaborate with other AmeriCorps members at MOBC to promote healthy eating and nutrition through monthly cooking classes Work with Food Security Coordinator to create and implement a sustainable system of supply chain management for more efficient ordering and distribution of food in the food bank Develop new partnerships with local farmers, CSA’s, farmer’s markets, and other food justice organizations to increase the capacity of the Food Security program to serve the community Conduct site visits to other emergency food banks in Nashville to understand processes and increase efficiency at MOBC’s Food Bank Participate in AmeriCorps professional development and community-building workshops
