This is an AmeriCorps National Service position. This position is contingent on funding and open until filled. Palouse Conservation District's (PCD) is actively seeking an AmeriCorps member to serve as the Education and Restoration Technician who will serve directly with our Resource Conservation Department to deliver opportunities that promote riparian restoration and help implement conservation practices with local volunteer groups and students. The three main goals of this position are to improve water quality by achieving increased survival of riparian buffers; to coordinate volunteer participation at watershed restoration projects; and to educate and raise community awareness on the importance of stewardship behaviors and conservation practices that influence water quality and the impacts to pollution. PCD's mission is to foster the voluntary conservation of natural resources by providing the tools, education, technical expertise, and financial assistance to support our local community. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis until filled. Position is anticipated to start September 2023.
Member Duties : Member will serve in the office and in the field on project sites focused on environmental restoration and agricultural conservation projects. You will serve with the Education and Outreach Departmental staff in the classroom and informal education settings, as well as outreach or community events. This position will increase the community impact of the district by supporting direct implementation of conservation practices, recruiting and managing volunteers for restoration projects, delivering environmental education lessons, and contributing to outreach initiatives. PCD Staff will be available to mentor and train the member on technical aspects of project implementation, habitat restoration, and effective science communication strategies to engage the public. Field equipment will be provided to the member by PCD. Serve in varying weather conditions (rain, snow, heat) for extended periods of time, over uneven terrain, and lift up to 40 pounds.
