Hours: 12:00am-8:00am

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This position is responsible for providing quality care for the dogs and puppies housed at The Ability Center, and to ensure the puppies are kept in a clean and healthy living environment. To report any medical issues you may find, or contact the appropriate people if there is a medical emergency. To keep the staff members on task, and ensure all the Job tasks are completed and done correctly. Watch pregnant mom dogs for signs of labor, and to make sure the litters are born safely and healthy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Dog care:

• Health check the puppies and mom dogs.
• Make medical reports of anything found that may be of concern during the health checks.
• Work with puppies on nursing schedules to make sure they are nursing the correct amount so we make sure they are consistently gaining weight.
• Clean each puppy dorm to make sure the puppies are in a clean environment throughout the night.
• Make sure the puppies have food and clean water.
• Give baths to mom dogs and puppies as needed.

Management responsibilities:

• Sign off on all the duties completed during the shift
• Watch pregnant moms for labor signs, and whelp the litter when needed. .
• Communicate to other shift managers any important information gathered during your shift.
• Oversee that job tasks are being completed, and that the dogs are getting the best care possible.
• Administer medication to the appropriate dogs as needed
• Make informational binders that correspond with each litter.
• Make any medical reports so that things are communicated to the vets
• Keep everything organized and all information in order for incoming moms and litters.

EXPECTATIONS:

The expectation is to have the puppies in a healthy environment. The puppy stage of life is a very crucial part to their development. We strive to raise these puppies in the best way possible to pave the way for their bright future as service dogs in training. This is a very important role to oversee the puppy facility and monitor the pregnant moms. We need a very reliable and punctual person to step into this management role.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous Management experience preferred
• Previous kennel or animal experience preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and good organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to lift 65 Ibs.
• Ability to restrain active dogs weighing up to 110 Ibs.
• Ability to complete necessary paperwork or reports and meet a deadline.

Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred

Required Licenses: None.

Working Conditions: working indoors performing cleaning and canine health care duties. Use specific chemicals when disinfecting the puppy dorms. Lifting puppies in and out of rooms. Weekend and holiday work is required.

Safety Hazards: Subject to hazards that can be caused by working with animals and chemicals. Activities include regular and/ or repeated walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
