The Associate Director (AD), AbbVie Patient Services (APS) Training is responsible for the leadership and timely design, development, and delivery of approved training curriculum for products supported by Patient Support Programs (PSPs) within the AbbVie Patient Services organization. The AbbVie Patient Services Training AD is responsible for the team creating, developing, and delivering franchise curriculum for AbbVie Patient Services field teams as well as supporting new and optimized products. Position will rely on the ability to create, lead, and work within cross functional teams comprised of participants from APS Training, Access & Reimbursement, brand partners, Patient Services Operations, Business Technology Solutions, Abbvie Access Support, Promotional Material Review, Office of Ethics & Compliance / Legal, Market Access, other AbbVie Groups, and external vendor partners. Must be comfortable with cross functional team structure and adept at collaboration / influence management. Position will also require AbbVie Patient Services Training AD to provide program design / development support for product areas and supervise and develop direct reports. The AbbVie Patient Services Training AD leads initiatives / program efforts involving internal / external partners with overlapping initiatives that impact Abbvie Patient Services strategic vision and end-user experience.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality of training deliverables by:
- Leading / driving the PSP launch training strategy process, including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of performance focused training curricula to continuously improve the capabilities of U.S Patient Services PSPs.
- Be accountable for all aspects of training specific audiences and field forces on disease state knowledge, product knowledge, knowledge of US Area policies and procedures (including compliance-related policies), managed healthcare, motivational interviewing skills, key operating systems, district/region management and coaching/leadership.
- Ensure appropriate channels are selected for impactful training (ex., event-based training, ILT/VILT, virtual meetings, teleconference, on-demand training and live streaming webinars).
- Ensure there are pull-through initiatives to reinforce training initiatives (ex., gamification).
- Developing the AbbVie Patient Services Training Team through effective coaching and leadership for success in current trainer / training manager role and for future leadership opportunities within AbbVie.
- Building effective relationships to work collaboratively with Senior Leadership, Cross-functional partners, Marketing, and other groups leading AbbVie learning initiatives, to drive performance through consistent development and delivery of effective commercial training.
Accountability / Scope:
The AbbVie Patient Services Training – AD must:
- Function as a member of the leadership team and effectively represent the AbbVie Patient Services Training Team.
- Build and lead a team of highly effective field trainers / training managers to enhance performance competencies to drive performance within the Ways of Working with business partners / key stakeholders.
- Interact with and influence all levels of management to plan, design and develop learning strategies that will contribute to the achievement of related business objectives, KPIs, and other metrics for the franchise.
- Have a passion for driving excellence within the AbbVie Patient Services teams, with a focus on performance results that foster accountability within self, Training & Development, stakeholders, and customers.
- Lead the development of project plans, delivery, schedules, and timelines, with a focus on launch readiness.
- Take the lead on monitoring progress on the development service line, resolve issues and approve deviations from original plans.
- Brand, Template, and Content Management - Collaborate with Marketing in the creation of content and key delivery of strategic priorities.
- Demonstrate strong communication and human relationship skills.
- Provide effective customer service. Acknowledge customers timely to determine their need and help resolve the issue or request. Participate in departmental programs that promote and deliver exceptional content and business results service.
- Pursue professional growth and development through personal reading, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the trends in his/her field of expertise.
- Required to travel to perform duties - 20% travel.
Basic:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Must have proven experience in identifying launch training needs and effectively addressing those needs via design, development and delivery of training plans and curriculum.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g., CFR 210/211, cGMP).
- 8 -15 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or equivalent training experience, with management experience demonstrating success in developing & leading effective teams required.
- Strategic thinking & business planning skills, necessary to diagnose needs, develop, direct, and influence commercial training and organizational development strategies.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with U.S. Patient Services Leadership and with cross-divisional teams.
- Project management experience, managing cross-functional teams and/or external partners through large projects or initiatives.
- Knowledge of instructional design systems or extensive experience in training, adult learning principles, development of training and curriculum design are also desirable.
Strongly preferred:
- Healthcare degree preferred or a degree in business or other management field is acceptable if combined with relevant training and patient services experience.
- Patient Services experience.
