Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I - Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of Responsibilities include:
  • Takes a leadership role in working with the colleges on pre-admission advising of transfer students, including details relating to advising at transfer student Orientations, open houses, recruitment, and other on boarding events.
  • Travel may be required between the three campuses, Jupiter, Boca Raton, and Davie as necessary for meetings and functions. There will also be local travel for selected events and program.
  • Takes a leadership role in the development of innovative materials to facilitate pre-transfer advising and academic onboarding issues.
  • Provides pre-admission advising for potential transfer students and assists newly admitted transfer students transition into their majors of choice. Addresses questions related to general education requirements, general education equivalencies, and common prerequisite coursework needed for their chosen majors. Monitors and responds to transfer related emails on the listservs.
  • Provides direct advising and course scheduling support for onboarding transfer students for those colleges requesting help for their first semester focusing on students still completing IFP and/or early core courses.
  • Assists transfer students with navigating the various offices and services at FAU campuses and refers them to appropriate offices on campus for assistance, including those transfer students needing advice on choice of major and career options. Helps identify and guide students through the IFP petition review process and college credit evaluation. Provides a curriculum overview and helps prepare the students for their college advising appointment. Utilizes advising and predictive analytic software for tracking, outreach, notetaking, and referral flags.
  • Reports to the Associate Director in University Advising Services overseeing our Transfer Team. Coordinates efforts with the Transfer Student Services office. The transfer advisor is also part of the University Advising Services team.
  • In support of the transfer students and the Transfer Team, this position will require evening and virtual working hours as well as an in-person presence on multiple FAU campuses depending on events and campus needs.
  • Advising and collaborating with the College of Business on pre-admission advising and scheduling of transfer students.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of appropriate experience required. Graduate internships can be applied towards the required experience.

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, think critically and work collaboratively with other departments within the University required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs/Development, Counselor Education, Psychology, or a related field.

Experience in advising, counseling, orientation, student services or related experience at a university preferred.

Proficiency in working with computer programs specifically, Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and Excel.

The ability to communicate effectively and professionally.

Working knowledge of the Appreciative Advising model is strongly preferred.

Must be willing to work from FAU Boca Raton campus as this is not a remote position.

$47,660 per year.
