General Description

This classification involves accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records and controls. This position specifically focuses on accounting work related to capital projects funding.

Essential Job Functions

Analyzes statistical, fiscal, and payroll records and reports of the department to determine the cost of operations of various activities. Participates in the routine accounting functions of posting, balancing, and preparation of special reports. Assists in the preparation of budget estimates and reviews encumbrances as to availability of funds. Performs a wide variety of clerical/accounting-related tasks, including but not limited to: tracking and reporting expenditures for capital projects which include multiple revenue sources, review and approval of journal entries related to incoming Park Impact Fee revenue collections, construction payment applications, conducting routine pre-audits of a variety of records by examining, verifying, and reviewing accounts, invoices, bills, vouchers, and records. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures particularly as they relate to public financial administration.
  • Ability to apply such knowledge to accounting transactions and resolve related problems.
  • Ability to identify trends and provide forecasts of a statistical nature.
  • Knowledge of modern office machines, methods and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accounting records.
  • Ability to prepare complete accounting reports and statements.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the legal administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the department of assignment.
  • The ability to create and maintain spreadsheets and database files.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. One (1) year of experience in the maintenance of accounting records. One (1) year experience working with computer spreadsheet and database programs. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Outlook required.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
