Job Description

This is a part-time/flexible position in our accounting department. The position generally involves assisting our accounting department with issues related to inventory, financing reporting, cost accounting, inventory receiving procedures, and other common accounting tasks. The job will also involve providing general accounting and administrative support the comptroller, two other accounting staff members, and the vice-president of the company.

We are interested in candidates who are "generalists" in accounting and administrative work. As a small company, there are a lot of random tasks in a particular category -- such as accounting. But, we often do not have enough to create a full position just for one of those random tasks. The ideal candidate will be good at multi-tasking and understanding the needs of a small manufacturing office (23 people).

This position is a great fit for someone who wants flexibility in their schedule. For the right candidate, we would work with you to create a schedule that fits your situation. For instance, if you are currently a stay at home parent, your hours could be while your kids are at school. For a retiree, we could offer flexible schedules to accommodate planned travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist accounting staff and comptroller with routine accounting tasks.
  • Organize files and accounting records.
  • Depending on experience, qualified candidates could also be involved in more advanced accounting and reporting functions.
  • Perform special projects as requested.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment; follow safety procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company files and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of standard business software (including MS Office programs).
  • College degree preferred (accounting or similar) -- but not required. Good work experience can be used to show competency.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient with typing and computers.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional telephone etiquette.
  • Good inter-personal skills and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Experience working in the manufacturing front office or related industry preferred.
  • Foreign language and/or extensive experience with computers (particularly with Chempax software) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of graphics and labels is a plus (but not part of the job description).

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift small parcels (15-25 lbs); requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Pre-employment screening required.

Compensation / Benefits

Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications. Range: $17-30/hr

Employment type: Part-Time (10-30 hours); Flexible Schedules. No weekends.
