Brentwood Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and talented Activity Therapist - PRN .
The Activity Therapist is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive recreation therapy program designed to meet the physical, social, cultural and recreational needs of patients in Residential setting.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Evaluates each patient’s physical and cognitive abilities, social and emotional behaviors and leisure needs.
- Completes the Activity Therapy assessment within appropriate time frame according to policy.
- Participates in Treatment Team meetings and provides written goals and interventions to the treatment plan. Implements changes to the treatment plan according to patient progress. Contributes to discharge planning.
- Understands the importance of maintaining the dignity of the psychiatric patient.
- Communicates with non-judgmental statements regarding client behavior, as observed by supervisor and as documented in chart.
- Documents in accordance with departmental/facility standards and requirements of regulatory bodies.
- Writes legibly, uses approved abbreviations and correct spelling as documented in the clinical record.
- Reports incidents in timely manner and according to hospital policy and procedure.
- Utilizes therapeutic communication skills and foster sense of dignity and respect with patients. Notifies direct supervisor if any observed staff behavior is detrimental to patient well-being.
- Assures communication of pertinent information from group/individual sessions to unit staff and physician by regular formal and informal discussion.Maintain required departmental records, i.e., attendance, petty cash receipts, monthly records, etc.

Minimum: Bachelor’s (BS) degree from an accredited college in Therapeutic Recreation. Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or ability to obtain certification within a year of hire date by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
Preferred: Successful completion of four-year degree (BS) in Therapeutic Recreation or a related BS Degree. Thorough knowledge and understanding of recreation and activity therapy theory and the ability to apply its principles in an acute psychiatric facility. Possess functional recreation therapy skills and ability to apply them to individual and group activity sessions as a Certified Recreation Therapist Specialist. Certified Lifeguard is a bonus.
