Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an Activity Therapist for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois to provide therapeutic activity programs for and conducts direct therapy for assigned individuals. Completes activity therapy assessments and evaluative data for the development of habilitation plans. Evaluates the individual’s complex behaviors and reactions of during activities and leisure time. Establishes and coordinates types and schedules of activity programs. Travels in performance of job duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides therapeutic activity programs for and conduct direct therapy for assigned individuals served at Ludeman Developmental Center.
- As a member of the treatment team, formulates treatment plans, writes program notes, makes detailed analysis and evaluation of the individuals needs and their responses to treatment and formulates realistic discharge plans.
- Completes activity therapy assessments and evaluative data for the development of habilitation plans, implementing therapeutic modalities and documenting such as determined by hospital and departmental policy and procedures.
- Orders and stocks supplies and equipment for activities.
- Monitors and maintains adequate resources and verifies a safe environment for individuals served and staff.
- Assists in providing in-service training for both activity and non-activity staff.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree with a major in therapeutic recreation, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, leisure studies or recreation with a specialization in recreational therapy, including successful completion of an approved internship, fieldwork or practicum.
- This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
Work Hours: Various shifts. See below:
(1 vacancy) 9:00 am - 5:30pm - 2 days a week AND 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm - 3 days a week; Works Monday - Friday. Also works the second weekend of each month (off Friday and Monday before and after the working weekend); LEVRAS Unit
