When applying for this position, please include a current resume/CV and a 1-page lesson plan, including an appropriate assessment. This plan should represent how you would teach a lesson, in the major you are applying for.

Essential Duties

  • Delivers effective preparation and instruction in Academic Development courses using up to date and cutting edge contemporary methods with a strong outcomes based teaching model.
  • Teaches courses such as Basic Writing, Fundamentals of Writing, and Critical Reading.
  • Creates mechanisms to help developmental education students progress from developmental to bridge-level and college-level courses through curricular alignment.
  • Preparation of all course materials, including syllabus, lesson plans, activities, and assessments.
  • Provides support and guidance to students regarding academic concerns.
  • Completes all required documentation within the designated timeframes, including, but not limited to, attendance, grades, and student learning objectives
  • Utilizes the college’s portal and learning management system for tracking attendance, assignments, and grades.
  • Completion of adjunct faculty orientation upon being hired.
  • Communicate with the division Chairperson if you have questions or concerns at any time.

Minimum Requirements

1. Associate’s degree including a minimum of 18 credits in English courses for bridge level courses.

2. Bachelor’s or Masters degree in English or Education preferred.

3. English degree with reading certification for our bridge level reading courses.

4. Demonstrated prior teaching/training experience.

5. Daytime hour availability. This is not a solely online position.

Recommendation for hiring will be made by Academic Development division chair, Karolyn DeMarco. Prior to a final offer of employment, candidates will be required to submit to a PA Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprinting, and provide official transcripts to the Human Resources Department.

Upon being hired, the division Chairperson will schedule a meeting to provide you with the necessary materials for the class(es) you will be teaching. In addition, training will be offered for using the college online learning management system to ensure your success in meeting the required duties, as noted above.
