GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effectively teaching Music Theory and Aural Skills within the Kirkwood Music curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include lectures and labs building skills in: harmonic analysis, counterpoint, and modern analytical techniques. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively with a strong understanding of a variety of musical styles and show evidence of successful teaching at the college level.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach Music Theory and Aural Skills courses as scheduled (face-to-face).
• Coordinate with lead faculty on curriculum and requirements.
• Maintain current course syllabi and provide it to all students taught.
• Effectively organize and teach assigned curriculum in accordance with established syllabi.
• Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master of Music or Master of Arts degree in Music
• 18 graduate credit hours in Music Theory

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :

• Masters Degree in Music Theory or Composition

• Ability to demonstrate successful teaching.

• Outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills.
