Job Summary:
Enforces the City animal ordinances and State regulations that govern animals within the City limits. Assists Animal Shelter staff with the care and operation of the Animal Shelter. Responsible for performing all the day-to-day operations associated with Animal Control for the City.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responds to complaints and calls for service regarding stray, sick, injured, neglected, or lost animals. Investigates complaints regarding vicious or dangerous animals and animal bites. Enforces City ordinances and State laws through the issuance of warnings and citations. Patrols the City to pick up stray animals and animals in violation of City ordinances. On 24-hour call during designated periods.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to competently drive a truck and pull a livestock trailer. Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperatures. Must be able to operate various animal capture devices. Must possess visual acuity and hearing ability necessary to perform job functions efficiently. Must be able to pen and move large animals (livestock). Must not be allergic to animals or have any inability to handle animals.

Other Aspects of the Job:
Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Must obtain a Basic Animal Control Certification within one year of employment and maintain certification thereafter. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must have some knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Must communicate courteously and effectively with the public. Must receive pre-exposure rabies inoculations provided by the City. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probation period. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Applicant must also pass a polygraph test prior to employment.

All jobs require the applicant to pass a criminal history check, thorough background investigation, work fitness physical and drug screen.
