Research Metrics Librarian

The Ruth Lilly Medical Library in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Research
Metrics Librarian. The incumbent would be directly responsible for codeveloping,
advancing, and supporting a range of services around scholarly
output, research impact, research visibility, and metrics literacy. Working in
coordination with colleagues, the incumbent would serve as a resource for
faculty and researchers looking to evaluate and optimize the visibility and
impact of research outputs. The incumbent would also work with large data
sets to analyze research metrics data in support of requests for research
impact reporting and support grant reporting requirements around impact
metrics.
Position requires a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or
foreign equivalent as well as 2 years of experience in bibliometric and
research impact. Experience in the following also required: searching
academic databases; bibliographic and citation databases; teaching research
impact metrics; and conducing citation and bibliometric studies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in collecting and analyzing research impact data using various
resources and bibliometric methods in order to report impact of faculty and
institutional publishing and research activities. Interpret a wide range of
publication-based and citation-based statistics. Provide researchers with
information on options for dissemination, publication, and preservation of
scholarly works. Investigate and provide specialized support for analysis, use,
and emerging applications of research metrics. Develop and deliver
instruction on topics related to understanding research metrics, reporting
research impact to funding agencies, and optimizing dissemination of
research outputs. Maintain awareness of trends related to publishing and
research metrics, such as open access and federal funding policies. Provide
and contribute to curriculum and course development for medical students,
faculty, and staff. Provide training and implementation on tools, such as
electronic lab notebooks, RedCap, and Tableau. Provide research and expert
searching services to support research, clinical practice, and medical
education.
Collaborate with faculty on projects including teaching, grants, manuscripts,
paper, or poster presentations. Contribute to the overall development and
innovation of the library and the profession by participating in library,
campus, university, state, regional or national meetings, committees,
workgroups and task forces or by representing the library on consortia.
Develop a network of contacts within assigned liaison areas. Teach
orientation sessions, course-integrated instruction and workshops.
Maintain current knowledge of the trends and issues in higher education,
scholarly communication, research practice, and health care. Design and
implement a plan for continuing education, continuing professional
development and actively contribute to the development of health sciences
librarianship through scholarly and service activities. Participate in other
projects and initiatives as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or foreign equivalent
required. 2 years of experience in bibliometric and research impact.
Experience searching academic databases. Experience with bibliographic and
citation databases. Experience teaching research impact metrics. Experience
conducting citation and bibliometric studies.
