Summary of Position:
The Assistant Director works collaboratively with FCTL faculty and staff and the broader University community to implement FCTL’s mission, vision, and values. The Assistant Director will lead and co-lead efforts to support non-tenure track, tenure track, and tenured faculty in implementing high-quality learning experiences that reflect the integration of relevant theory, evidence-based practices, principles of equity and inclusion, and other appropriate concepts and practices to promote student learning and success. The Assistant Director will collaborate in facilitating FCTL’s ongoing programming and implementing strategic priorities that advance faculty professional development, effective teaching, and deep student learning.

The anticipated start date for this position is June of 2023. However, this is an estimated start date and can be revised if needed.

Required Work Experience:

College-level teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate faculty/educational development programs for a variety of audiences (e.g., various academic disciplines or professions) on diverse topics and in differing formats.
Evidence of effective communication skills, as evidenced by writing or publications, presentations, or one-on-one interactions.

Education:
Terminal degree from an accredited institution (e.g., MFA, Ed.D., Ph.D.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Experience working with racially and ethnically diverse populations.
Experience improving student success in equity gap courses and/or those with persistently high rates of D, F, and withdrawals.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide expertise in: evidence-based teaching and learning strategies; instructional design; holistic/social and emotional learning; student development; diversity, equity, and inclusion; assessment; and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Work independently and collaboratively to design, develop, facilitate, and assess individual and group consultations, workshops, faculty learning communities, and other learning opportunities for faculty at different stages in their career and with varied teaching experiences.
Facilitate and/or co-facilitate educational development and other programs with varying purposes, formats, and scopes (e.g., New Faculty Orientation, Faculty Transition Program, Junior Faculty Fellows Program).
Co-facilitate work that improves student success in equity gap courses and those with persistently high rates of grades of D, F, and withdrawals.
Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion, and serve and support an educationally, culturally, and academically/professionally diverse community.
Leverage data, relationships, and emerging trends to identify and support institutional needs or opportunities in educational development.
Remain current with and apply emerging scholarship and innovations in educational development and evidence-based teaching and learning practices.
Serve on appropriate committees, working groups, etc. and be a liaison with departments, services, and other units at the University.
Assist in the development and implementation of FCTL’s planning and budgeting processes.
Assist with the success of FCTL Student Assistants and Faculty-in-Residence.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
