Title: Assistant Pre-K Montessori Guide (Full-time)

Location: Acton Academy Kingwood, 23979 Wildwood Rd, Porter, TX, 77365

Compensation: $30,000 per year

Benefits: 2 weeks paid vacation, 3.5 weeks paid school holidays

Acton Academy Kingwood is part of the Acton Academy Network with over 300 schools worldwide. We use an innovative, learner-driven approach to learning. We combine Montessori methods with Socratic guiding, hands-on experiential projects, and interactive e-learning software. We strive to create a learning environment that feels like an adventure and keeps the students’ natural spark for learning alive.

At Acton, we have mixed-aged classrooms called "studios" with a self-paced learning design, as opposed to grade-levels. Our real world-oriented quests culminate in a public exhibition of learning, as opposed to test scores and report cards. Job Description:

We are seeking an assistant Montessori guide for our 3-5 year-old students. Acton Academy Kingwood guides are not teachers in the traditional sense of the word, but more like coaches and mentors. Guides are Socratic discussion leaders, imaginative game makers, and role models who love to learn and have a heart for young people. A guide’s ultimate goal is to equip, connect, and inspire young students to become independent and self-sufficient, to develop an inner love of learning, to be creative, explore the natural world, and take ownership of their learning.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will have a deep heart for children and a trust and respect for their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention. He or she must have passion for disruptive education and will be deeply curious and ready to learn and work hard. He or she will be agile with online learning and have excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. He or she will be both kind-hearted and tough-minded with a calm demeanor.

• On-the-ground experience working with young people in the 3-5 year-old age range in any capacity is required.
• Experience working in a Montessori classroom is desirable.
• Experience as a coach or mentor is desirable.
• A flexible, lifelong-learner mindset is required. This position will require someone who is interested in learning Montessori and Acton methods and someone who is excited about teaching in a non-traditional environment.
• A bachelor’s degree in any subject or commensurate experience is desirable.
