Job description
Assists with horse workouts and gate crews. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Dependability, good attendance, and occasional overtime required.
2. May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as scheduled.
3. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Texas Racing Commission license.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
5. Assists in training of horses at gates
6. Assists in maintaining starting gate. Supervisory
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
- Ability to handle horses weighing in excess of 900 pounds.
- Preferably one to two years prior experience as an Asst. Starter.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
- At least 1 year of Assistant Starter experience required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain TXRC License required.

- Bending and lifting 15% of the time
- Lifting/moving maximum of 25 lbs.
- Ability to see 20/20, color, and/or peripherally
