Assistant VP, Alumni Engagement, is responsible for providing strategic direction for all aspects of the University of Iowa's alumni engagement program, advancing communication, volunteerism, and philanthropy among alumni and friends. Reporting to the Vice President for Alumni and Donor Engagement, this individual works closely with the VP and executive leadership team to engage alumni and friends of the university across the globe.

***Telecommuting: Position allows for telecommuting/work from home (up to 2 days per week depending upon business need and leader approval). Candidate must be within driving distance of office located in Iowa City, IA.***

  • Assists the VP of Alumni & Donor Engagement and UICA President in defining the strategic, long-term vision for Iowa’s alumni engagement efforts
  • Lead a team of senior staff who perform at the highest levels with sustained success in managing alumni leadership and constituent development, affinity and shared interest groups, volunteer programs, regional engagement, events and engagement prospect relationships
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the Alumni Leadership Council, to ensure strong and productive relationships between its members and the university
  • Create and manage a strong service orientation among and between centrally based staff and schools and units, and encourage collaboration and cooperation across the enterprise
  • Develop and monitor metrics related to alumni engagement; understand how to use alumni engagement metrics to set strategy, allocate resources, and assess outcomes
  • Collaborate as an active partner with the staff of colleges, admissions, career services, athletics, central strategic communications, and other units to develop and enhance alumni programming, communications, and engagement, and promote opportunities for philanthropic support of the University
  • Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system, all while establishing and maintaining meaningful relationships with alumni through ongoing cultivation and strategic stewardship
  • Develop and manage the alumni engagement budget for maximum impact while being a thoughtful steward of resources
  • Share and demonstrate best practices, seek efficiencies and economies of scale and scope, and demonstrate and promote the highest standards of ethical and appropriate conduct
  • Participate in advancement activities and events, some of which involve evening and weekend work hours and regional and national travel

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred


    Experience: 10 years - higher education alumni engagement and team advancement programs; Master’s Degree preferred. The successful candidate will be an experienced advancement professional, a team player with demonstrated leadership success, and will have the ability to manage a comprehensive program and multiple constituencies. AVP must celebrate and embrace all aspects of our comprehensive university, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and maintain the highest levels of institutional integrity.
