Position Summary:

We are seeking an Associate Director to join our passionate research team. You will lead a small team of Ph.D. scientists in discovery efforts to identify and validate small molecules that drug RNA, including the development of assays, screens, and technologies. You will be responsible for driving all facets of this early discovery work including high throughput screening campaigns, hit-to-lead workflows, and validation in cell-based assays. A strong background and experience leading drug discovery efforts is preferred.

Successful candidates will be able to thrive in a fast-paced, action-oriented, team environment and display a clear passion for science and impact. The individual will have demonstrated evidence of technical expertise and experience overcoming challenges and moving projects forward with urgency. Experience guiding junior scientists technically and strategically will be essential. They will be interested in contributing at the bench and be dedicated to scientific development of themselves and their team.

Responsibilities:

• Enable biochemistry strategy for small molecule drug discovery projects from hit stage through lead candidate selection and in vitro validation
• Drive biology experiments to assess targets, biochemically evaluate candidate small molecules, and support drug discovery of several high value, unprecedented targets
• Develop and implement assays for the biochemical characterizations of small molecule/RNA interactions
• Manage outsourced biochemistry and cell biology resources, establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with CROs and academic collaborators
• Manage, support, and guide a team of internal scientists and RAs
• Work collaboratively in cross-functional drug discovery teams
• Prepare and deliver scientific updates to the Leadership Team and Advisors

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equivalent
• 5-10 years of industrial drug discovery team experience, with a track record of high-quality project deliveries and technical innovation
• Demonstrated experience in managing outsourced resources with evidence of solving challenges
• Sound knowledge of other disciplines involved in drug discovery (biophysical methods, NGS, HT screening)
• Demonstrated ability to work with and lead highly skilled teams in a fast-paced, quickly evolving technical environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying scientific information in a concise and effective manner.
