Job Description
This search is for an Associate or Full Professor/Department Chair 12- month appointment position in the Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education within the College of Education and Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The position will be a combination of service as department chair (50%) and teaching (50%) in a field within the department. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral level coursework in the TBED's programs, carry out a program of grant seeking, research and publication, serve on university committees, engage in professional service activities, provide visionary leadership for faculty and staff, recruit for the department's programs, and foster collegial relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in a discipline related to one of the subject areas covered by the Department of Teacher & Bilingual Education
Tenured and promoted to rank of Associate Professor in current position
Evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarship (inclusive of a record of sustained peer-reviewed publication), professional development, and service
Demonstrated leadership ability, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work collaboratively at the Department Chair level
Demonstrated effectiveness in planning and administration
Successful record of supervision and evaluation of personnel
A commitment to the field of education and the mission of teaching, scholarship, professional development, and service
Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and other university constituents
Ability and desire to address the educational needs of a diverse population
Willingness to collaborate and sustain a collegial environment
Ability to travel between main campus in Kingsville and the Rio Grande Valley
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to-
Lead and assist with accreditation and program reviews
Liaise between the Department of Teacher & Bilingual Education, other university colleges/departments, and community stakeholders
Seek and apply for internal and external grant funding
Assist, as needed, with budgeting
Provide recommendations for tenure, promotion, and termination
Perform other duties as required by the College Dean, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and/or President
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years' experience managing budgets and directing/supervising personnel
Experience in fundraising, external communications, and/or other advancement initiatives
Hold a Texas or out-of-state teaching certificate recognized by the State of Texas
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a PreK-12 setting
Experience with inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy and practice
Experience teaching undergraduate courses in elementary mathematics, science, and social studies, and/or graduate courses in early childhood education
Experience designing contemporary and technology-based learning environments
Strong record of grant writing knowledge/experience
A criminal background check will be required.

The Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education is housed in the College of Education & Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a Hispanic Serving Institution. The department, with 13 full-time faculty members, offers twelve unique undergraduate teacher preparation degrees, four specialized master's programs, and the nation's first Bilingual Education Doctorate.
