Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Education, Director of Teacher Education

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
This is a 10 -month, full-time tenure track position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Education, Director of Teacher Education for the Henney Department of Education. This is a faculty position that has both teaching and administrative duties.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Teach eighteen hours per year in the undergraduate program at Manchester University. A full teaching load is 24 hours per year, so this position is 25% administrative and 75% teaching.
  • Teach courses for the Henney Department of Education, particularly courses in special education and early childhood education.
  • Teach assigned classes at scheduled locations and for the scheduled durations.
  • Direct and attend non-class activities, as appropriate.
  • Develop course syllabi.
  • Administer examinations and assess student learning.
  • Work with both the Indiana Department of Education and CAEP to ensure the teacher education programs are accredited.
  • Serve as accreditation specialist and administrator over student licensure requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Experiences to align community partnerships, meet program expectations, and exceed accrediting expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Field Experience and Assessment Coordinator to analyze data, and to write state and federal reports.
  • Maintain professional effectiveness, which includes but is not limited to, high-quality of scholarship; intellectual integrity; professional currency; openness to learn about and adopt improved methods of teaching; and above all, a vital interest in student learning.
  • Participate in faculty governance, including attending meetings.
  • Work in a professional, collegial, and team-oriented manner.
  • Maintain compliance with policies and procedures in the Faculty Manual.

Secondary Job Functions
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Stay abreast of current licensing laws for teachers.
  • Attend TEC and UCC meetings.
  • File CAEP, AACTE, IN-DOE, and Title II reports.
  • Work with the department to maintain public documents.
  • Collaborate with secondary programs such as history, human performance, modern languages, etc.

Qualifications:
  • A commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ph .D., Ed. D, or completed a Master’s degree in Education. A.B.D. also considered.
  • Credentialed expertise in special education and early childhood education.
  • Experience with both college and primary/secondary classrooms.
  • Knowledge and experience sufficient to enable the candidate to effectively teach courses for the Henney Department of Education.
  • Effective, engaging presentation skills.
  • Effective organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to deliver course content and to assist students in understanding course content.
  • Ability to evaluate student work and to provide effective feedback.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to adapt to changing teaching and learning environments and content-delivery methods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and in the best interests of students.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and respond to students’ legitimate needs in a timely manner.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students of all skill levels and academic backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to perform clerical work for oneself, as necessary.
  • Basic leadership, budgetary and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Canvas LMS.

Work Schedule: Onsite classes are generally scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm. Some classes, laboratories, events, and/or meetings may be scheduled in the evening or on weekends.
