Job Functions & Responsibilities:
As an Audit Staff Accountant, under general supervision you will be given a wide variety of audit and accounting assignments and engagements across various client industries. You will play an important part in the audit work performed by the firm and will work on all aspects of an audit, including but not limited to planning, execution and completion of the engagement. You will assist with the completion of our clients’ reports and daily interaction with clients to help identify and resolve audit issues.
Responsibilities of a Staff Accountant:
- Prepare clear and accurate workpapers
- Understand financial statement risks and inter-relationships of financial statement items
- Perform research on accounting and assurance matters, client industry and technical matters as required
- Perform a wide range of audit and accounting procedures impacting industry-specific issues
- Reconcile client records to trial balance, which may include analytical procedures, and perform schedule computations of prepaid, accrual, property, equipment and calculate depreciation expenses
- Become proficient at preparing financial statements using the firm’s software programs
- Update managers and senior managers of job status and assurance issues in timely manner
- Understand the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA
- Understand and comply with the firm’s policies and procedures
- Understand and apply basic audit and review techniques
- Become familiar with pronouncements of the FASB, AICPA and when assigned to governmental engagements, the GFOA and GASB
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Master’s Degree in Accounting
- Ability to travel locally to serve clients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Either holds a current and valid certified public accountant’s license or is working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam
- Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles
