About This Position
The Special Events Banquet Captain controls the flow and the tempo of every function of the Banquet department. Responsible for the workflow of the Banquet team as a whole, the Special Events Banquet Captain must understand all positions within the department and have the ability to coordinate the activities of those employees to execute successful catered events
- Train and supervise banquet staff
- Act as primary contact with guests and staff on the floor during banquet functions
- Execute events as developed by the catering department
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of ballrooms, banquet kitchen, office and storage rooms
- Consistently work to improve Banquet Department
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise the Banquet Team during shifts and provide performance feedback or disciplinary recommendations to Banquet Manager
- Ensure Banquet operation in accordance with Alderbrook Resort & Spa standards
- Participate as requested in training new Banquet staff
- Provide immediate feedback as necessary to Banquet team regarding performance issues
- Communicate with the Assistant Banquet Manager regarding any positive or negative critical incidents for departmental employees
- Ensure all interactions with and between coworkers are conducted in a highly professional and efficient manner
- Ensure a safe working environment and attitude on the part of all employees in areas of responsibility
Requirements:
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Banquet/Events experience, required
- Previous hospitality experience, preferred
- 1+ year previous supervisory experience, preferred
- Valid driver license and satisfactory driving record, required
- Valid WA Food Worker Card - required within 14 days from start
- Valid WA Class 12 Alcohol Server Permit - required within 60 days from start
- Friday-Sunday availability required. Weekday flexibility preferred

- Interpersonal: Ability to work/communicate effectively verbally with multiple operating departments. Able to speak, read and write English.
- Work habits: Ability to work independently, autonomously and without supervision, while also able to follow written and verbal instructions when necessary. Able to work long hours and overtime if necessary; Team-oriented; Resourceful.

- Work Environment: Conditions are those of a typical of a kitchen/banquet environment.
- Physical Demands: Individuals in this position must be able to able to lift and move fragile objects up to 50 pounds. Work may require frequent bending, lifting, a wide range of arm movement, finger and hand dexterity, and may occasionally require long hours standing. Visual identification of equipment, supplies, and work conditions as necessary
