About the Opportunity


The Behavioral Health Programs Associate will be responsible for providing administrative and fiscal support for the behavioral health initiatives supported by the Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) fund, which awarded the UNC System $7.7 million for program implementation and outreach to be implemented over the next 14 months.

The position will assist the Student Affairs team in delivering multiple systemwide behavioral health projects and coordinate vendor payments and grant reimbursements for the delivery of mental health training programs at all 17 UNC System institutions. These mental health training programs could include Question Persuade and Refer training, the itMatters Program, and behavioral health coaching for faculty and staff. This position will serve as the fiscal manager for the UNC System Resilience Grants Program by collaborating with UNC System Sponsored Research Department on the development of subawards and campus payments.

This is a grant-funded and time-limited position with an expected end date of June 28, 2024.

This position may be eligible for remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

About the UNC System Office
The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.

About the Team
The Student Affairs division works closely with the leadership, faculty, and staff at the UNC institutions to foster system-wide strategies for enhancing student success and time-to-degree through data-driven decisions. Student Affairs collaborates with System and institution administrators in implementing policies and regulations regarding student affairs, financial aid, student success, and campus safety. The division is also responsible for access programs, such as CFNC Pathways Partnership, the statewide Countdown to College program, and works closely with committees and educational agencies on minimum admissions, course requirements, and partners with NCSEAA (North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority) for the coordination of the distribution of student financial aid information, and state awards.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Competencies
  • Financial management: Ability to develop budgets and monitor and manage expenses; ability to communicate
financial boundaries in relation to expenses. Attention to detail in analyzing financial reports. Utilizes, reconciles,
and manipulates data from different internal and external financial software systems.
  • Adept at working with and understanding grant funding and grant-funded projects
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing and able to anticipate and apply the best communication
approaches and formats most appropriate for different contexts. The person in this position must have the ability
to independently compile, analyze, and compose financial information into varied formats with responsibility for
content review, accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently or in teams in a collegial work environment and encourage and
promote collaboration and cooperation among staff and institutional personnel
  • Flexibility and adaptability in work interactions and schedules
  • Ability to develop new processes or procedures, both individually and as part of the program planning team, to
create best practices and improve quality of work and workflow
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of, and experience with most Microsoft Office applications, including
Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Prior experience working in ConnectCarolina/PeopleSoft with voucher entry is preferred but not required
  • General knowledge of the UNC System and its institutions
