POSITION TITLE: Billing Specialist

EXPOSURE CATEGORY: III

DEPARTMENT: Clinic/ASC/Satellite Operations

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Billing Assistant performs financial and administrative support activities for professional, surgical and optical services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Billing Assistant must:

- Be a high school graduate or equivalent.

- Have excellent customer service skills

- Have prior medical or hospital billing/coding experience for facility and professional services.

- Have experience using a medical software computer system.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Billing Assistant reports directly to the Billing Supervisor and interacts cooperatively with the Billing Manager, staff members and patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Complete all insurance claims within authorized time frame to assure compliance with departmental standards.

2. Data entry of all charges for services and products into the computer-based format.

3. Generate all insurance claim forms and prepare for mailing to third party insurance carriers.

4. Enter all claim payments, refunds and rectify accounts according to contracted or mandated agreements with insurance carriers.

5. Work outstanding accounts according to data provided on Aged Accounts Receivable reports by following up with insurance carriers on unpaid claims.

6. Process rejections by correcting any billing errors and resubmit claims.

7. Keeps updated on all billing and benefit changes for third party insurance carriers.

8. Complete bank deposit forms and daily accounting for all payments.

9. Generate daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial status reports.

OTHER DUTIES:

1. Answer telephone and relay messages.

2. File patient records and invoices.

3. Open and distribute mail.

4. Order office clerical supplies in accordance with the procedures set by the Purchasing dept.

5. Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EQUIPMENT:

Operates standard office equipment including: Computer, multi-line telephone, and calculator.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Aptitudes: Audio, visual and verbal ability, ability to make simple to more complex calculations, problem solving capabilities and the ability to organize.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift and carry 2-5 lbs. of paperwork.

Ability to bend, stoop, walk and stand.

Ability to sit for an extended period of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
