About the Program:
The Management Development Program is the fast track into management opportunities at MSUFCU. This structured and comprehensive program is designed to prepare associates for a successful career in management, with classroom training, hands-on experience, projects, and interaction with senior leadership.
Throughout the program, you'll receive training in essential areas such as leadership, employee relations, communication skills, conflict management, team building, and strategic management. You'll also have the opportunity to shadow one or multiple departments, depending on your individualized training plan. With this hands-on experience, you'll gain knowledge and exposure that will help you develop your management techniques and skills.
This comprehensive 6-month to two-year on-the-job training program is the perfect opportunity for ambitious individuals looking to take their career to the next level. Successful completion of the program, combined with a willingness to continue learning and developing, could lead to your first promotion to an Assistant Manager or Manager role within the organization. If your performance does not meet management expectations, other options will be evaluated.
Schedule:
- This position requires working a standard 40 hour week during Branch hours of operations
- Monday – Thursday 8:45am-5:45pm
- Friday 8:00am-6:15pm
- Rotating Saturdays 8:45am-1:15pm
- Employees work every other Saturday and receive a consistent day off during the week to offset their hours
- Scheduled hours could change based on business need and future department growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively take ownership of personal growth and development
- Have advanced knowledge of and take initiative to learn and perform various employee duties and responsibilities
- Be a role model by demonstrating initiative, responsibility, integrity, professionalism and dependability
- Take on risk and utilize lending limits commensurate with level while actively mentoring the same in others
- Have an understanding of the Credit Union’s strategic initiatives and align the branch or department to achieve those initiatives
- Use judgment and decision making skills to protect the members and the Credit Union, and teach others to do the same
- Develop, implement and communicate strategic direction and goals for the department which support the overall strategic direction and goals of the Credit Union
- Offer excellent service to current and potential members and develop the same in others
- Build relationships with members by educating them about products and services they could benefit from, and mentor and train others to do the same
- Actively participate in branch and Credit Union initiatives, mentor and train others to do the same
- Handle complex situations with confidence, knowledge and creativity
- Use critical thinking skills to solve problems and improve processes, work efficiently and use time effectively
- Accept ownership of, and remain current on, all new and existing information, processes and software
- Maintain regular communication with leadership to share observations of strengths and areas for development within the branch or department and other situations as they arise
- Support Credit Union promotions by providing training, support, monitoring, analyzing results and holding employees accountable for performance
- Assist in hiring, evaluation, disciplinary actions, recognition and review writing for employees
- Actively communicate with employees for their development, including regularly providing feedback and direction
- Recommend product and process improvements improve service to the members, protect the Credit Union’s assets and increase productivity and operational efficiencies
- Maintain branch or department compliance with Federal and State laws and regulation
- Monitor staffing levels, scheduling and workflow to ensure adequate coverage to provide superior service and accomplish operational duties
- Take on a leadership role within the Credit Union by participating and contributing as a member of the Credit Union’s management team including representing the Credit Union in the community and in a volunteer capacity
- Promote positive working relationships while working with other departments to provide superior service and consistency in processes for the membership and staff
- Stay current on financial industry topics with ongoing education through readings, trainings, conferences, etc.
- Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the Learning and Talent Development Department
- Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Attainment of or active pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Knowledge of supervising employees
- Ability to successfully train and mentor
- Ability to communicate with members and provide outstanding member service
- Ability to meet aggressive deadlines
- Leadership and team building abilities
- Excellent people skills and a positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
- Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area
- Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
- This position requires onsite presence at the employee’s assigned location for all scheduled shifts
