Job Summary
This position provides custodial services support for university facilities. Assists Superintendent and Supervisor in delivering custodial supplies to buildings, overseeing and directing custodial associates in everyday tasks as requested. Performs a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of classroom buildings, offices, athletic facilities, dining halls, or other university buildings. Responsible for becoming familiar with all buildings and covers various buildings. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture and operating cleaning equipment. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks, operating laundry service machines and performing special cleaning duties. Assists with inputting AIM time data. Responsible for leading team meetings when applicable. Responsible for special project work such as pressure washing, cleaning light fixtures or windows using a scissors lift or ladder. Employee demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
Primary - 35
Tasks involve trash removal; cleaning and polishing of various furniture, table, and glass surfaces; sweep, mop, vacuum, strips, restores, wax, and buffs various floor surfaces. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments. Follows instructions regarding use of chemicals and supplies. Assists superintendent in delivering custodial supplies to buildings, collecting trash/recycling, overseeing and directing custodial associates in everyday tasks as requested.

Must be able to work special events (varied hours and weekends) with minimal supervision and determine the necessary tasks to be performed. Assists in supervising custodial associates and intermediates.
Heavy Equipment - 20
Must be able to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washers, walk behinds, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers. Recognizes and obtains required tools, equipment, materials, and supplies that are needed to do the job. Recognizes and follows prescribed safety procedures and regulations.
Communication - 10
Must possess leadership skills and be able to assist supervisor with training and administrative duties. Assists supervisor in scheduling assignments and entering time into the work information system. Performs inspections. Works alone or with a team in various buildings when custodial associates are absent from work.
Training - 10
Determines type of chemicals and equipment necessary for specific cleaning tasks. Identifies cleaning problems and determines appropriate remedies. Delivers cleaning supplies to buildings.
Must be familiar with all building requirements and provide absentee coverage. Responses to emergency needs such as spills, toilet over flows, water leaks, and other duties as assigned. Submit work orders. Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Enforce and support policies established by Campus Planning and Facilities.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Other Required Qualifications
Valid driver's license.
Required Experience
Three or more years of institutional, industrial or commercial custodial experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Education and Training: Custodial Technician certification or similar certification in custodial professional development or college degree. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing floor care equipment.
Proposed Salary
$16.88 hourly

Must be able to operate various cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washer, walk behind, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers. Must be able to operating a computer, and utilize email.
SKILLS
Interacts with others in the work area in a manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks and ability to work as part of a team. Must have leadership skills and be able to assist Superintendent with training and administrative duties.
