Job description
Job Title: Bus MonitorPurpose of Classificaton : Assists the bus driver with student management and ensures the safety and welfare of students including students with special needs while riding the bus.
Examples of Job Duties :
- Rides on bus routes and monitors student behavior.
- Assists the drivers with all safety and behavioral issues.
- Support and appropriately supervise students with special needs. Writes Bus Conduct Reports and contacts parents if needed.
- Follows proper techniques in lifting and providing physical support to appropriately secure student on the bus.
- Files incident reports when situations out of the ordinary occur.
- Assists children with basic first aid when ill or injured on the bus.
- Makes seating charts for bus routes. -Other duties may be assigned.
- Must be able to operate mechanical or manual wheelchair lift on a bus and properly strap in a wheelchair inside the bus.
- Maintains student confidentiality, shares effective strategies and essential information with school staff who have a direct educational interest.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Assures orderly entrances and exits to and from buses.
Assists young or disabled students on and off of the school bus.
Responsive to the needs of students according to their transportation plan formulated in conjunction with IEP.
Safely operates powered wheelchair lift equipment on special needs buses.
Correctly uses child and wheelchair restraint devices on special needs buses.
Assists the driver in effectively dealing with special needs student's discipline issues.
Maintains daily log to record drop-off and pick-up times as well as any other items that may occur during the duty period.
Effectively observes students to identify medical or health issues.
Maintains confidentiality of information according to prescribed guidelines.
Maintains a neat, clean appearance. Shoes-closed-toe, closed-heel design will not interfere with performance of duties.
Maintains flexibility of duty hours to accommodate various bus routes in support of the District's school-year schedules.
Assists bus driver in helping to keep the interior of the bus neat and clean. Assists with emergency bus cleaning.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Capable of dealing with children including those with various special needs.
Must be able to pass Certified First Aid/CPR class.
Demonstrated physical stamina and health required of the position.
Must be able to climb and descend bus stairs without assistance.
Must be able to bend down in a kneeling/squatting position and stand-up straight without assistance.
Must be physically able to assist lifting wheelchairs and students.
Must be able to life about 50 pounds.
