Department Overview:
The Entry-Level Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst reports to the BI Manager.
They assist in fulfilling the organization’s mission by maintaining front-end BI assets that are designed to serve the needs of the organization as well as local donation partners. They will assist with project planning for BI reports and various data projects with dept. stakeholders and outline technical specifications for back-end requirements. They will occasionally be responsible for maintaining or upgrading the performance of these assets as assigned by the BI Manager. This position will also assist with creating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data entry processes to help the organization adhere to industry wide best practices and regulations. They are responsible for maintaining and distributing vital remote-use technology and equipment including, at a minimum, mobile printers, tablets, and laptops. The position supports the organization by assisting with projects designed to continuously improve how available data informs training, data quality, and staff education needs. Business Intelligence:
- Supports other analyst with maintenance of the production database, the organ donor EMR replication database, and UNOS data systems. Uses various types of BI software including, but not limited to, Tableau, Power BI, Crystal Reports, and SSRS. Assists in development of plans for emergency situations including testing, downtime, data breaches, and recovery activities/strategies of the database.
Project Planning:
- Gathers data into observations that help drive improvement initiatives through visualizations, KPIs, and education. Uses soft skills, analytical thinking, and database knowledge to inform Cascade Life Alliance leadership’s mission goals.
- Project Planning responsibilities include logging new BI report requests, maintaining existing BI reports, collaborating with stakeholders, and educating staff in other departments on the functions of user-friendly reports.
Security & System Administration:
- Assists in maintaining Cascade Life Alliance employees’ access to the organ donor EMR and UNOS national organ allocation systems.
- May assist in granting and maintaining employee access to donor hospital EMRs. Assists with troubleshooting electronic system errors encountered by Cascade Life Alliance staff during organ donor cases, as assigned by manager.
- Facilitates use and analysis of electronic assets, including tracking, usage statistics, license renewals, lost/stolen property procedures, asset leasing/returns, and long-term implementation planning.
Data Governance:
- Promotes data quality and governance. Educates staff on BI report request alignment with the Cascade Life Alliance mission as assigned by manager. Collaborates with Quality Assurance (QA) to identify and address documentation errors and inconsistencies.
- Collaborates with QA to uphold data governance as expected by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) and UNOS. Assists during surveys conducted by regulatory agencies as assigned by manager.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assists in ensuring Cascade Life Alliance’s adherence to regulatory reporting requirements pertaining to verification and submission of donor and referral data.
- May compile data and generate reports as needed for the Cascade Life Alliance Advisory Board, the Cascade Life Alliance Medical Advisory Committee, OHSU Central Financial Services, hospital teams across the donor service area, and other entities as requested by manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and one year work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
- Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years’ work-related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
- Three years’ work-related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
- Two years’ experience data analytics and sharing data insights with stakeholders
- Two years’ experience with front-end reporting
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
- Motivation to support a culture-oriented and team-based environment
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Experience with Power BI, Epic Analytics, Business Objects, SSRS, or Tableau
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read and communicate contents of a data model
Education & Experience:
- SSIS (or equivalent) development and management experience
- Experience at an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO)
- Experience with electronic medical records, preferably Epic.

- Experience with medical terminology and medical professionals
- This on-site position requires the ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the Cascade Life Alliance office.
- May include rare contact with human organs/tissue/blood.
- Requires extended periods of time doing office-type work such as working with computer, keyboard, phone, and paper documents.
- Requires the ability to physically install electronic equipment in various office settings.
