Job description
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by enabling individuals to perform meaningful and purposeful activities across the lifespan. The Occupational Therapy Assistant assists in developing, improving or restoring independence to any person who has an injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction.
Job Duties
-
Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, provides occupational services reassessing the client's status on each visit, and ensuring quality of care as evidenced in the clinical record

Coordinates client care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal client care and communications evidenced in the clinical record
-
Completes all required paperwork following policies and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and the outcomes achieved, as evidenced in the clinical record

Maintains and enhances personal knowledge as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards

Follows exposure control plans/blood-borne and airborne pathogens

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives

Communicates to Occupational Therapist any change in patient status or need to change/update goals
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Good interpersonal relationships

Good written and verbal communication skills

Proficient use of computer – ability to type
Professional Experience
-
One year experience preferred
Education
-
Education sufficient to obtain licensure in the state of Iowa
Licensure, Certification, Registration
-
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure from state of Iowa required.

Will consider a candidate with Limited Permit license per Iowa Administrative code.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training prior to start or transfer date.
Location: Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids · Occupational Therapy
Schedule: Full Time, Day, M-F with weekend and holiday rotations required.
