Girl Scouts of Gateway Council is currently seeking a
Camp Counselor for a Summer camp based in
Hawthorne, FL.
The Camp Counselor will serve to assist in the operation and activities of the Girl Scouts while they are attending Camp Kateri. This position will be responsible for directly supervising the Girl scouts while they are attending the camp. This position is unique in that the applicant will be involved daily developing experiences along with mentoring Girl Scouts. This is an 8-week residential position that will run June 1- July 28 and includes room and meals for the duration of the summer sessions.
In addition, this position is responsible for:
· Work with Unit Leader and/or administrative staff to formulate and implement activities and experiences in the unit.· Know the girls in the unit and help them to respect the rights of others and understand the differences and similarities of other campers.· Supervise campers and ensure their physical and emotional health and safety at all times.· Assist in maintaining unit sanitation, housekeeping, and care of supplies and equipment.· Assist with the storing and packing of equipment for safety during and at the end of the season.· Keep Unit Leader informed of day-to-day unit successes and concerns, as well as camper health and other unit issues.· Maintains a good rapport with parents and the community.· Keeps required records and reports as requested by Unit Leader and/or administrative staff.· Assist with check-in and check-out procedures.· Assist with the opening and closing of the entire camp.· Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Desired Skills and Experience:
- Be a currently registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA or willing to become a member.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be willing to live in staff tent or cabin near campers.
- Have training and/or experience working with children in an outdoor setting.
- Have good time management, organization and communication skills.
- Hold current certification in standard First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to clear a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Level 2 fingerprint / background screening and drug screening.
