CDL Class A Truck Driver/Maintenance Worker

Full-time (position is a part-time driver & part-time facility/machine maintenance)

Local driving, home each night.

Summary:

The CDL Class A Truck Driver is responsible for loading freight on trucks for deliveries. Primary job duties are driving, delivering, and unloading freight. Other typical duties involve running errands, picking up supplies, and supporting maintenance and production crews.

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the manufacturing facility and machines in a safe and sanitary work environment.

Measures of Success - CDL Class A Truck Driver

  • Fully understands how to operate and safely drive the assigned vehicle.
  • Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) up to 80,000 lbs.
  • Loads product on trucks in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Unloads or delivers the orders intact to the delivery location.
  • Ensures contents are properly secured to prevent damage/injury.
  • Effectively interprets and understands the paperwork provided to assist in organizing the shipments.
  • Inspects vehicles for mechanical and safety issues and performs preventative maintenance.
  • Complies with truck driving rules and regulations as well as with DOT and company policies and procedures.
  • Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions.
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations.
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather/road conditions.

Measures of Success – Maintenance Worker

  • Ensures operation of production machinery and mechanical equipment by troubleshooting, identifying, and completing preventive and routine maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, hydraulics, conveyor systems, sieves, augers, conveyors, stick machines, gravities, etc.
  • Performs changeover and set-up of production machines as well as troubleshoots mechanical and basic electrical systems and makes appropriate repairs to machines.
  • Installs equipment within the manufacturing facility.
  • Completes work orders to repair machinery.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals, and electrical schematics to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Disassembles and installs bearings, motors, gearboxes, and belts.
  • Operates motorized, hand tools, and other equipment used in maintaining and repairing facilities, buildings, and grounds.
  • Operates a forklift, bobcat, and tractor with a snowblower.
  • Fabricates parts by using machine shop equipment.
  • Performs emergency repairs on various types of machinery, including mechanical, electric, and hydraulic; identifies and replaces worn or damaged parts in a timely manner.
  • Understands and supports company and site safety policies and performs work-related activities in a safe manner. Recognizes unsafe work conditions and behaviors and engages with co-workers to ensure conditions and behaviors comply with policies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to sit, stand and /or walk for up to 3 hours at a time in an 8-hour day; ability to frequently grasp, push, pull, bend and climb up to 130ft.

Candidate Attributes:

  • High school diploma, GED, or previous or similar relevant experience or knowledge preferred.
  • 2+ years of proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred.
  • 1+ years of proven mechanical experience in a manufacturing facility, or similar relevant experience or knowledge preferred.
  • 1+ years of welding and/or fabrication experience preferred.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations.
  • Current, or ability to obtain a medical certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • Must pass DOT required background/drug checks.
  • Experience using a forklift, electric pallet jack, manual pallet jack, 2-wheeled collapsible dollies, and lift gate safely.
  • Forklift certification is required or the ability to become certified onsite.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Meets attendance requirements and is on time.
  • Electrical knowledge or experience preferred.
  • Able to read, understand, and follow documents such as safety policies and general instructions.
  • Able to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions.
  • Able to prioritize and manage workload in a changing environment.
  • Able to work both independently and on a team.

Work Environment:

  • Work is conducted in company-provided trucks and trailers and in warehouse facilities and will sometimes require working in outside conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, product irritants, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. But higher levels of noise are marked by signs.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • First shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Occasional overtime.
  • Wage is based on skills and experience.
