JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Tillamook Family Counseling Center is currently looking to add a bilingual peer specialist to our Prime+ program. The mission of the Prime+ program is to prevent acute life-threatening outcomes of substance use which include reducing overdose morbidity and mortality by providing harm reduction centered overdose prevention education and facilitating access to Naloxone. We also strive to reduce injection-related infections by providing harm reduction centered infection prevention education and facilitating access to safer use supplies. The Prime+ program supports linkage to care, diagnosis and treatment of substance use related conditions and substance us related infections.

Prime+ is a trauma aware program that recognizes the prevalence of trauma and activation that many who struggle with substance use often have faced in their lives. We strive to provide services that are person driven and recognize the need for trauma aware responses. We understand that the mutuality of the life experience infuses a trusting relationship and shared lived experience provides hope.
This position includes training that leads to state certification according to OAR 410-180-0305 (12) and (13).
As a certified Peer Specialist, you will be a living example and role model of recovery life. As a peer you will be a provider of the life wisdom gained through your own lived experience of recovery as well as a change agent for hope.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a certified peer support specialist, you will provide practical help, mentorship, advocacy, one-on-one individualized coordinated support while supporting individuals/peers in building skills for problem solving as the peers you are serving begin to work on the recovery that will meet their needs and challenges.
- You will support participants/peers in developing and using natural supports including but not limited to community self-help groups if that is what they would like to do.
- You will support recovering individuals/peers in learning to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths, and areas needing improvement regarding recovery.
- Your work will be based on the 4 tasks of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) which foster, Connection, Worldview, Mutuality, and Moving towards as well as incorporating the 3 principles which include From Helping to Learning Together, Individual to Relationship, Fear to Hope & Possibility.
- You will work with community partners to build relationships while educating about what Peer Support is and is not.
- Document participants/peers progress in agency’s Electronic Medical Record within agency guidelines as well as document in Recovery Link for individuals who are enrolled in the Prime+ program.
- Attend community recovery outreach events as well as all Peer Huddles via the Prime+ Peer Program.
- Collaborate with county jail staff and probation officers to engage with individuals/peers who are incarcerated or being released from incarceration who experience SUD/OUD in order to link them to recovery supports.
- Coordinate with all areas of TRMC staff to engage individuals/peers who are being seen for medical reasons related to substance use disorders, with priority given to those experiencing OUD (Opioid Use Disorder).
- Coordinate with the peer’s treatment team when appropriate including primary clinician, group leader, and medication provider for support and advocacy of the peers right to determination and self-efficacy.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK/SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. This is an hourly position. Days and hours of work are variable, but generally are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. This job may require longer hours, but any hours worked over the allotted 40 must be pre-approved by your supervisor.

- Ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team and maintain role clarity.
Required Education and Experience:
- Be Self-Identified recipient of substance use substances health services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery.
- Minimum of 2 years personal recovery from SUD/OUD
- Bilingual - Spanish
- IF QUALIFICATIONS OF PERSONAL RECOVERY SUBSTANCE USE ARE MET THEN:
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalency
- Have, or have the ability to obtain (within 2 months of hire) Oregon Peer Support Specialist Certification from state approved program. TFCC pays for the training and expenses such as hotel and meals according to the reimbursement rate outlined in the Employee Handbook
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience with electronic medical system
- Knowledge of Email and Microsoft Word
- Some experience with using a keyboard - Typing.
