CLC conforms to the spirit as well as to the letter of all applicable laws and regulations. *
Core Values*

*
RESPECT*

  • This core value is the overarching value of CLC.
  • Treating others with respect and expecting the same from them – both internal and external to CLC.
  • CLC celebrates and values diverse voices and perspectives by creating a culture of inclusiveness and diversity and has a long history of working with clients in various cultures and locations.

LEADERSHIP

  • We provide leadership to clients in our areas of expertise.
  • Clients rely on us to lead them through complexities, deadlines etc.
  • When clients are uncertain, we provide guidance and encouragement – they do not always have the time, experience, or expertise in the many complex areas of FQHC.
  • Client hires us for a project because they don’t have time and/or don’t know how to get it done.
  • We provide leadership for our clients, and we take initiative, so we are solution focused.
  • Reliability – The client can count on us for:
  • Informing, educating, and completing technical tasks
  • Participating in decision making
  • Listening and understanding coworkers’ challenges
  • We embrace our commitment to being community leaders by implementing and demonstrating environmental sustainability thinking and practice.

SMEE (Subject Matter Expert Extraordinaire)

  • SMEEs in FQHCs
  • You can have a very specific niche within FQHCs and still be a SMEE.
  • At our best, we are generalists that know well all a client’s admin needs.
  • We know our weaknesses and call-in support frequently.
  • It’s okay not to know everything, but communicate, offer to find out, and set a deadline to get back. It’s a good selling point and highlights other stars in our office.

SOLUTION-FOCUSED

  • We look for ways to make something work, not for reasons that something can’t be done.
  • Diagnostic versus production – defining the problem and crafting a solution rather than waiting for the client to tell us what to do. Using our FQHC SMEE skills
  • Keep an open mind when looking for solutions and solicit input from other SMEEs and the client staff who are directly involved.
  • “We don’t just drop a report on your desk, we help you, walk by you, keep you company, help you carry your load”. This is what differentiates us.

FLEXIBILITY

  • Work-life balance – the balance works both ways, ebbs and flows.
  • Examples: adjusting your schedule to accommodate a client’s board meeting, taking a conference call in an airport while traveling, taking time to check emails quickly after hours.
  • We give our staff the ability to pick their schedule that they will adhere to on a regular basis with the understanding that there may be variations due to outside work responsibilities. Keeping team members informed of your own flexible schedule is key.
  • We are here to serve the client. Their time is when we need to be available.
  • Often the client doesn’t know what they need but wants to know someone is there.
  • Work/life balance doesn’t mean turning off the phone at 4 or 5 and not looking at it. Many times, a quick response is all that is needed. Brief but lets the client know, “We are there” so that they know you will follow up within a reasonable time later.
  • It doesn’t mean that, if you are traveling, your other duties are shelved.
  • It is about relationships, both within CLC consultants AND with clients.
  • It’s not always going to be a 50%/50% split. It is work/life, not just life. It’s the rhythm and balance.

CURIOSITY

  • Definition - Eager to know or learn something.
  • Self-initiated, not delegated.
  • Examples: reading articles or listening to podcasts outside of work, asking additional questions on projects.
  • Taking on a new subject area and learning the details, even if it is new to CLC.

GIVE MORE THAN YOU GET

  • Help people first, relationships are key to our success.
  • Take the extra step to find the file, look up the information or ask what you can do to help. Givers gain – think about that.
  • This is not defined only in terms of money. For clients, it is time with them.
  • What is the only commodity we have?
  • Relationships are key to our success.
  • Try to find out something about the person in front of you – personal interest.
  • Help people first, billing will come if the relationship exists.
  • It has been part of our mission from the beginning and is ongoing.
