Position Title: Chief Mission Delivery Officer

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary

Responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of GSSA’s programs and services, while also fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration among staff, volunteers, and program partners.

The CMDO reports to the CEO and has direct responsibility for leading teams that include membership recruitment and retention, membership development and new initiatives, community programming, volunteer, and troop support, and volunteer training in support of

GSSA’s long-term strategic and annual operating plan business goals.

This individual is responsible for developing and overseeing the Mission Delivery team’s annual operating budget, membership forecasts, operational metrics and key performance indicators and driving council-wide business process mapping and process improvement to streamline operations and increase efficiency and effectiveness of mission delivery departments.

Passion for the Girl Scout Movement and its mission is essential. The CMDO is expected to build, motivate, and lead high-performing section leaders and teams who are member- and data- focused that consistently deliver on the mission accomplishment and advancement of Girl

Scout Movement in local communities across Southern Alabama

The CMDO also participates as part of the executive team in the process of setting the organization’s strategic direction and short- and long-term plans, and in translating the vision and corporate goals set by the Board of Directors into effective operational strategies and actions.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide leadership, direction, mentoring/coaching, and support to the team leaders who manage the organization’s core mission delivery departments.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies and provide direction to staff for Membership

Growth, Retention, Volunteer Engagement, and Program Delivery ensuring membership is integrated with all teams.

  • Direct the work of GSSA’s community outreach program to provide program/membership opportunities directly to girls in underserved, at-risk or grant funded programs. Oversees the development of curriculum and resources related to

GSUSA Program Portfolio, program pillars, and relevant initiatives.

  • Provide direction and supervision to employed staff in the development and implementation of work plans and budgets for assigned geographic areas; supervises directors and membership staff in the recruitment, retention, and delivery of services to volunteers.
  • Analyze market data on demographics, membership trends, and other available information to lead the charge in membership strategies and determine girl and adult membership needs.
  • Work with membership team to formulate, integrate, and implement long- and short- term recruitment and retention strategic plans, to build and support a unified council- wide vision
  • Assess, develop, and strengthen the volunteer experience. Effectively utilize volunteer systems, training, and development to support the changing needs and priorities of adult members, volunteers, community stakeholders, and council operations
  • Lead team to foster participation in volunteer opportunities, and increase volunteer support for girls and adults
  • Lead staff to work within GSSA’s CRM tool (Salesforce) and adhere to procedures and policies regarding documenting interactions, managing workflow, maintaining confidentiality, and completing tasks
  • Ensure that substantive program opportunities are available to all girls in our jurisdiction, and GSSA-led programs align with the organizational strategic plan, goals, and outcomes These programs should also be designed to contribute to membership growth. Systems should be in place to evaluate programs for relevance of girls and to achieve outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports and documentation connected to membership, volunteer, and program key performance indicators.
  • Effectively develop and maintain influential relationships in the community to maximize awareness and engagement with volunteers, families and in identifying and developing opportunities to partner with organizations from business, non-profit, and public sectors to maximize broad-based support for the GSSA’s efforts while staying abreast of current trends in volunteer engagement.
  • Identify and assess business-development opportunities and strategies and promote Girl

Scouting in the community, to enhance the understanding and appreciation of its programs and its status as the premier organization for girls

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. nonprofit management, public administration, education, business, etc.); Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum eight years of successful experience in related field; 5-7 years of supervisory experience
  • Previous work experience in a non-profit, education, membership-development role, youth services, or outside sales environment preferred
  • Proven success in managing in multi-functional operations environment and exceptional project management skills
  • Substantial budgeting and fiscal management experience of $500k or more
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategy, and to supervise staff with attention to accountability, goal setting and metrics
  • Able to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and common sense in determining priorities and carrying out essential tasks
  • Belief in the mission of Girl Scouts and ability to communicate and model the mission to others
  • Able to work effectively with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and promote an inclusive environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends, occasional overnights, and ability to travel as job requires
  • Possess the character, skills, and ability to be a positive role model for girls and adults
  • Must pass pre-employment background screenings; including criminal, education, credit and referral

FLSA Classification: Exempt, full time

Each employee serves as a role model to girls and volunteers. All interactions with constituents, including colleagues, should reflect the mission and values of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and

Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama.

Employee Role in Development Efforts:

Each employee is expected to take an active role in development by being alert to opportunities to identify potential donors and providing contact information to the Chief Development

Officer. On occasion, employees may be asked to participate in site visits and/or follow-up calls with the contacts.

Employee Role in Pluralism Efforts:

Each employee is responsible for promoting and contributing toward GSSA’s goal of institutionalizing pluralism by initiating and participating in activities and functions that enhance organizational diversity.

Employee Role in Affirmative Action Efforts:

Each employee is responsible for contributing toward GSSA’s affirmative action plan by ensuring and promoting nondiscrimination in every aspect of Girl Scouting.

Physical Requirements:

Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and moderate lifting (less than 30 pounds)

Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
