The Claims Advocate role is primarily focused on aiding and educating members with the process of opening, submitting, and continuing a disability claim with their respective insurance carrier.
The main objective of the position is to affect the outcome of claims in a positive manner, lessening the financial burden to members during an injury, illness, or death.
Responsibilities:
- Answer, make, and direct phone calls
- Manage claims email inboxes and faxes, distributing information to the appropriate contact
- Review policies and coverage information to determine claim eligibility
- File disability claims over the phone and complete paperwork with members
- Request medical records and forms from doctors’ offices and follow up with requests
- Submit documentation to the insurance carrier on behalf of members
- Maintain a high-volume claimant workload
- Correspond with claimants via email and phone
- Follow up with the insurance carrier for necessary updates or problem resolution
- Act as a liaison between claimants and the insurance carrier
Requirements:
- Strong customer focus with proven experience in a customer service environment
- Proven experience in a high call volume setting
- Analytical thinking (problem solving skills)
- Maintain composure in handling of high-stress calls
- Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (primarily Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- Acute attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Emotional intelligence
- Appropriately express empathy and compassion to members experiencing trying medical and financial situations
- Willing and eligible to obtain Life and Health Insurance Licenses in the state of IL (Must be in good standing with all regulatory agencies and have no pending investigations or prior disciplinary action)
Ability to:
- Learn, retain, and explain the claims process, requirements, and benefit options of multiple associated insurance carriers
- Effectively build and maintain relationships with members
- Work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Multi-task
- Prioritize workload and manage time effectively
- Type 60+ wpm
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
