This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Stroke Research Groups both within the UK and internationally, and make a real difference to patient care. The post holder will play a key role in studies applying advanced brain imaging to cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). SVD causes lacunar stroke, small deep strokes in the white matter and deep grey matter structures in the brain. It is the most common pathology underlying vascular cognitive impairment and dementia. The Stroke Research Group has an International reputation for its research in SVD. A particular focus of the work will be on the role of brain inflammation and immune reprogramming in the disease.

We are looking for a medically qualified doctor who is interested in gaining research experience, and/or applying for a research degree. The work would be suitable for a higher degree. It would provide ideal research training for a stroke physician, neurologist, geriatrician or radiologist trainee.

The post holder will join a friendly Department, which brings together clinical and non-clinical researchers from many disciplines including medicine, nursing, neuropsychology, brain imaging, genetics, biostatistics, epidemiology and clinical trials to research the causes of and treatment of stroke. They will benefit from the exceptional research opportunities and collaboration within the University of Cambridge.

This current post is funded by a grant from the British Heart Foundation.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.

This is an integrated appointment between the University and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ("NHS Trust").
