The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia is seeking one highly motivated individual to serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator 1, Non-Licensed on our Clinical Research team. The incumbent for this position would join the Department of Ophthalmology as a department research coordinator.

The position trains with other clinical research staff and works directly with physicians to conduct clinical research trials, recruit and consent subjects, and collect and verify accuracy of research data. The Department has a thriving research environment that supports a large number of industry-sponsored clinical trials across a variety of ophthalmic sub-specialties as well as investigator-initiated research.

The Clinical Research Coordinator 1 performs work at the task level under close supervision. Responsibilities can include:

  • Receive training in proper research protocol compliance, including regulatory controls, study procedures, and data management. Work closely with senior Clinical Research staff and Principal Investigators to learn the full scope of clinical research duties.

  • Assist in document preparation, keeping appropriate logs, tracking participants, and preparing study materials.

  • Under supervision, perform a variety of tasks, such as assisting in recruitment and screening of potential research participants, obtaining informed consent from study participants, collecting and entering subject.

  • Process, prepare and ship laboratory specimens.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Other coordination and more advanced research tasks will be added as competency is demonstrated with opportunities for advancement within the clinical research coordinator ladder.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience, education and or certifications. Degree must be received prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience in a healthcare setting and/or knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) and aptitude to learn new computer systems and database use.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
