Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the CNC Programmer is responsible for developing and implementing CNC programs to manufacture products in a cost-efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate CNC programs and setup documentation required to manufacture products using CAD/CAM Software
  • Define, research, document and, if necessary, purchase the required tools to manufacture products
  • Calculate production rates (setup and run) for each process routing operation
  • Develop process routings, defining the required operations to manufacture products
  • Support manufacturing operations by working with direct manufacturing personnel in developing solutions to manufacturing problems
  • Recommend drawing changes to engineering that facilitate product manufacturability
  • Support operations by assisting with initiating and/or closing work orders and preparing travelers
  • Participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

Hard skills with knowledge of manufacturing processes in a product manufacturing environment and specific experience in:

  • CNC Turning and Milling Operations, including set-up and prove-out
  • Computer assisted programming (CAM, Master Cam preferred)
  • Mechanical design fundamentals (CAD, SolidWorks preferred)
  • Metal cutting tool selection and utilization
  • Metrology
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Quality processes (six sigma)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of quality processes
  • PC literate including Microsoft Office software

Soft skills, including:

  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical skills and ability to interpret data
  • Problem solving skills

  • Highly organized individual with abilities in prioritization, time management, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Capable of working on multiple projects at once
  • Working knowledge of Machining, Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical Assembly and Metal Cutting Tools
  • Be able to work and communicate across departments

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Machining or equivalent combination of education and experience in process/manufacturing engineering fundamentals.

  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining, programming experience or related experience and/or education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience required in a product manufacturing environment or related experience and/or education
