Position Summary:
Ensure that the Hamilton County Suicide Prevention Coalition works to achieve its vision of reducing the number of local community members struggling with suicide by coordinating the efforts of the coalition in partnership with other community groups and systems following the Strategic Prevention Framework and other research based prevention models, policies, and programs.
The coordinator is expected to lead the efforts by facilitating with coalition members to conduct/interpret a Community Readiness Assessment to better understand local conditions that guide appropriate suicide prevention strategies, develop the knowledge and skills needed to increase the infrastructure and sustainability support group/coalition sustainability, enhance strategic planning efforts through data-driven decision-making, and engage in professional development and leadership skill-building opportunities.
Position Description:- Manage the day to day operations of the coalition including project management; budget and expenses; coalition communication; regular meetings; and record keeping.
- Work in collaboration with other organizations and systems on issues related to substance abuse prevention.
- In conjunction with the Executive Committee, develop strategic and long range plans for the coalition.
- Update the strategic goals, logic model, and long-range plans at least biennially and facilitate the implementation strategic plans.
- Based on developed long range and strategic plans, prepare a work plan and budget annually.
- Facilitate monthly coalition meetings, committee meetings, and other meetings as determined by the coalition and executive committee.
- Recruit new members and retain current members from various sectors of the community, ensuring representation of the diverse Hamilton County community.
- Apply for grants, write grant reports and oversee all grants received by the coalition.
- Monitor, track, and evaluate community and capacity accomplishments of the coalition.
- Work assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance, and work outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands. Perform other duties as designated by the Coalition Executive Committee.
- Abide by all office policies, procedures, and regulations of the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services, and state regulations regarding prevention
- Membership to the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation and the Ohio Prevention Professional Association is provided and connections there are expected to be made and maintained
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment; public relations; alcohol tobacco and other drug use and abuse; data collection and dissemination; computer software, programs and applications
- Ability to understand social and emotional concerns of youth and adults
- Exercise sounds judgment in dealing with stressful situations
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of community members; establish collaboration between different community organizations and systems;
- Maintain confidentiality where necessary;
- Maintain accurate and complete work records, including developing and managing necessary documentation
- Work independently demonstrating initiative; manage multiple projects with different due dates and outcome measures; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; maintain and promote good public relations
- Skill in verbal and written communications; managing and completing multiple projects simultaneously; application of job software programs; organizing and coordinating events
Job Requirements:
- Bachelors degree, Masters degree preferred.
- Three to five years of coalition development, community development or related experience preferred.
- Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Credential is necessary, or the ability to achieve certification within one year.
- Must hold a valid drivers license.
