Silgan Closures is seeking an experienced COATINGS SCIENTIST at our Corporate Headquarters & Innovation Center in Downers Grove, IL, to develop and specify materials for metal and plastic closures for the food & beverage industry. Apply today!
What you’ll do as a Coatings Scientist:
- Play a crucial role in formulating, sourcing, and specifying coatings for metal food closures.
- Work closely with vendors to develop and specify new materials.
- Travel to our manufacturing plants to organize and run projects from conception to production.
- Design experiments and run both pilot line trials and manufacturing trials.
- Analyze physical and chemical data including FTIR, GC, DSC, TMA, rheology, and physical tests in order to develop relationships between material properties and closures performance.
- Provide technical assistance to manufacturing for production and customer issues
- Provide support for regulatory compliance.
Job Requirements:
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field, including Polymers, Materials Science, or Engineering.
- Minimum eight (8) years related experience.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of plastics and polymer/formulations/processing.
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE).
