Mandy Bean is a new brand opening a luxury specialty coffee shop on the busy street of Central Park Ave in Yonkers.

Mandy Bean is a luxury specialty coffee shop brand and experience being developed right here in Westchester County. We are seeking a business-savvy & hospitality-driven General Manager to oversee our up-and-coming Yonkers location. As the GM, you are first in command and have a true sense of ownership over this coffee shop. You will manage the operational performance, grow the business, develop an amazing team, promote change, and develop a new brand, all while overseeing the daily operations of the business. The perfect candidate will be ready to hit the ground running with a solid background in the coffee service industry, extensive experience as a barista, and up to date knowledge on the industry and its needs.

The role of the General Manager is to lead the brand and coffee shop to success by taking ownership of the location and maintaining an organized and efficient process for regular operations. The General Manager’s responsibilities include all day to day operations of their location, managing and training barista staff, educating customers on our menu, making recommendations based on customer preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.

To be successful in this role, the General Manager should have leadership skills, time management skills, people skills, organizational skills, customer service skills, knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks, and a motivation to keep the store clean and presentable. They should be flexible to work various shifts throughout the weekly schedule.

Specialty Coffee Shop General Manager Job Duties:

· Customer Service: Must interact with the general public in a way that inspires them to recommend our shop to their friends. That includes providing a warm welcome, asking about their experience and showing interest in their concerns. Great customer service must extend to internal customers (employees) and suppliers (vendors) also.

· Leadership & Supervision: Must set the tone in terms of employee safety, customer service, food and drink quality, organization, and follow-through. Works to inspire employees to do their best through onboarding, training, coaching, and supportive feedback.

· Cost Control: Oversees coffee and food ordering, supplies, maintenance, and labor costs to ensure that the coffee shop remains profitable -- in line with annual revenue and profit goals.

· Quality Control: The ability to ensure all drinks are up to par and consistent, ensuring a high-quality taste and experience for our customers at all times.

· Food Safety: Abides by food safety requirements and ensures that others do so by monitoring FIFO inventory and visually inspecting food prep and delivery activities.

· Detail Orientation: Manages the complex details of scheduling, shift swaps, new hire paperwork, product inventory, cleaning schedules, and unannounced health inspections.

· Accounting: Ensures adequate cash in registers and POS systems, runs daily reports, updates food and labor cost data. Makes bank deposits daily as needed.

You will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the coffee shop
  • Be responsible for Decision Making, P&L, COGS, Labor/Scheduling/Payroll, Inventory/Waste
  • Effectively manage, delegate, and multitask to ensure your team is well equipped to handle any new challenges
  • Manage new initiatives and scheduled launches within the coffee shop while instilling an entrepreneurial spirit in your team to keep them excited and engaged
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be a team and culture builder, coach, mentor, and focus on succession planning
  • Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example
  • Communicate with the team through daily team briefs, staff meetings, and one-on-one’s
  • Manage recruitment needs by proactively interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
  • Achieve and maintain Department of Health Standards, holding your team accountable and role-modeling cleanliness from your tactics organizing all stations
  • Bookkeep, maintain records, and run cash deposits
  • Maintain sufficient rolled coin and small bills in the safe
  • Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the shop
  • Adjust the menu to maintain customer flow
  • Ensure timely store opening and closing, and ensure appropriate staffing measures based on demand, previous traffic and trends.

  • Take corrective actions immediately on issues that affect customers, the team, or sales

Duties when working a shift:

· Immediately greet customers as they enter

· Engage customer before taking orders (e.g. “How are you today?”)

· Educate customers on menu items and answer any questions they ask

· Discern customers preferences and make recommendations accordingly

· Take orders while paying attention to details (flavor, milk, and sugar preferences)

· Receive and process payments (cash and credit)

· Serve prepared food, like muffins, pastries, and croissants)

· Prepare and serve beverages following receipes

· Brew drip coffee as needed

· Maintain a clean dining area, sanitizing tables and chair

· Maintain a clean customer area and restroom at all times

· Maintain stock of syrups, bar fridges, pasties, bagged coffee, and merchandise.

Necessary Skills & Qualifications:

· Knowledge of latest trends in the coffee industry

· Ability to prepare a variety of beverages associated with a specialty coffee shop

· Knowledge of latte art and how to do it

· Basic money handling skills and accounting knowledge

· Self-motivated and inspiring

· An achiever who has a strong sense for operations and is driven by results

· Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-volume environment

· Financial skills and capacity to analyze P&L statements, understand labor and food costs

· Experience managing and developing 4+ employees per shift

· Availability during operational hours (may include nights, weekends, and holidays)

· Food Safety Certification

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· The ability to read and speak English to interact with employees, vendors, and clients

· The strength to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day to assist customers and employees with all coffee shop duties – from helping to unload delivery truck to serving customers during rush hour

· Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs

· The ability to tolerate temperature fluctuations (e.g. kitchen and outdoor)

· General knowledge in social media and trends

· The ability to prepare non-coffee based specialty drinks (e.g. matcha, energy drinks, carbonated beverages, teas, trendy drinks)

· Open availability and flexibility to work whenever needed

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

· Associates degree or higher in business or hospitality preferred

· Spanish bilingual

· SCA Education Courses Completed

Previous experience Must Have:

· 3+ years of experience as a specialty coffee shop manager

· 5+ years experience as a skilled barista

· 1+ years experience in Latte art

· 1+ years experience operating La Marzocco espresso equipment

Benefits and Compensation:

· $70k-80k range (DOE)
