This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.
What it's like to work here:Set on the North coast of Cornwall Tintagel Old Post Office is over 600 years old and one of the Trust's very early acquisitions that is shared with the vast number of visitors that come to the village over the summer. We are a small, friendly team of staff and volunteers who are responsible for all aspects of looking after and providing access to the house and garden so each day is different. Open to visitors between March and October we are very much occupied with visitor experience whilst in the winter months the property is closed offering us the chance to catch up on collection care work and administration.

What you'll be doing:As one of the main keyholders for the property you’ll be required to work flexibly over the 12 months. When open to visitors working hours will generally be 4 days a week, including working Saturdays. You'll also be required to cover other keyholders holidays where needed. Hours will reduce over the winter however you will play a key part in January and February working with the Operations Manager and volunteers to deep clean the property and present it ready for opening to visitors, training can be provided for these aspects of the job. You will be trained on the alarm system and be on the call-out list for any emergencies.
You'll be responsible for the daily opening of the house, ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. Working with the small team of staff and volunteers, you'll supervise the team and be responsible for implementing conservation routines, using and cashing up the till, selling memberships and retail items and overseeing administration tasks. Assisting the Operations Manager you will think creatively to plan and deliver events and programming over the year.
You'll collect and record information during housekeeping cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house and the collection and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. You’ll enjoy telling visitors about our fascinating history, sharing tales from the past as well as your personal experience of working here.
