Computer LifeCycle and Repair Technician
This is a long-term contract position that pays $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (every 2 weeks) plus benefits, mileage reimbursement, and paid time off. The shift is Monday - Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
The PC LifeCycle Technician is responsible for fulfilling assigned tickets in the client’s ticketing system. Work includes deploying devices to new hires, replacing computers that have reached end of life with new equipment, data transfer, decommissioning surplus, repairing laptops and desktops, light travel, and other duties as assigned.
The PC LifeCycle Technician will begin with being responsible for the Muscle Shoals and surrounding areas (Huntsville, Guntersville, Hollywood) but will be transitioned to the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant at a future date.
The primary responsibility of the technician is to schedule deployments with end users timely, recover old equipment, ensure all data has been transferred to the new device, and close completed tickets. The technician also supports our customer's technology by performing hardware repairs (break-fix) on devices that are still covered by Dell warranty. The prime candidate will be reliable, organized, detailed, able to follow directions, a good communicator, and able to provide excellent customer service.
The PC LIFECYCLE TECHNICIAN is responsible for:
- Lifecycle and Incident tickets in the Muscle Shoals/Browns Ferry queue.
- Installing computers at a user’s desk.
- Providing laptops to telecommuters to take home.
- Supporting remote deployments by walking end users through first sign on and set up by phone.
- Ensuring data has been transferred to the new device.
- Ensuring connection to appropriate peripherals and network drives.
- Break-fix of Laptops and Desktops, primarily DELL.
- Track number of deployments and other activities performed weekly.
- Wiping of redeployable devices and decommissioning of end-of-life equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently but also in a team.
- Service Now experience is a plus.
- Must be able to keep precise records.
- Accurately diagnose and repair technology devices into working condition for our customers.
- Replace or repair: hard drives, motherboards, LCD screens, cameras, speakers, and keyboards etc.
- Connect peripherals to newly repaired or replaced devices.
- Transfer data to repaired or replaced laptops and desktops.
- Set appointments with customers to connect peripherals and transfer customer data to repaired or replaced device.
- Accurately record repairs and close tickets.
- Responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality service and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Deliver repaired devices to our customers.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- General knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Obey traffic laws and follows established traffic and transportation procedures.
Skills and Abilities Requested
- Ability to replace or repair hard drives, motherboards, LCD screens, cameras, speakers, and keyboards, etc.
- Ability to set up new systems, hardware, and software with minimal support.
- Be able to use Microsoft OneDrive.
- Experience migrating data from one computer to another/backing up data.
- Experience with troubleshooting outlook and moving files in user profiles.
- Experience with troubleshooting software issues.
- Outstanding Customer Service (this is a HIGHLY customer facing position).
- Ability to self-manage time and manage tickets to SLA- including administrative tasks tied to ticketing (closing, updating etc.)
- Ability to work alone or with remote teams.
- Basic knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Basic knowledge of Windows and Chrome OS.
- Ability to troubleshoot a variety of computer issues.
- Ability to accurately provide troubleshooting notes to show diagnostic steps.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. with no restrictions.
- Ability to pass a STRINGENT nuclear background check.
- A good driving record is required.
- Willingness to travel 70% required.
- High school diploma/GED Required.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Ability to work as a team in a professional environment.
- Ability to accurately and legibly fill out repair tickets.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with focus on quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Able to positively interface with employees, customers, and vendors.
PREFERRED CANDIDATES will need to have the following:
- CompTIA A+ certification is preferred.
- Technical Repair Coursework (ECPI, etc.)
- Associate degree or 2 years of relevant experience.
