The Martha's Vineyard Public Schools (MVPS) consists of five separate school districts, each an individual legal entity. Three of these districts are single school and town districts, each with its own K-8 school - the Edgartown School District, the Oak Bluffs School District, and the Tisbury School District. Three towns - Aquinnah, Chilmark, and West Tisbury - joined together to form the Up-Island Regional School District to serve K-8 students residing in those towns. All six towns belong to the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School District serving students in grades 9-12 in a comprehensive high school. All five of these districts share one Superintendent and a central office staff, along with seven shared service programs for special education and related services.
The Martha's Vineyard Public Schools are located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, approximately seven miles off shore from Cape Cod, Massachusetts with access by ferry from Woods Hole. The MVPS services approximately 2,100 students, employs 550 staff members, and has a budget of $49 million. The Island is especially busy in the summer months when tourist from around the world come to vacation.
