Our engineers have inspected, designed, rehabilitated and constructed hundreds of highway and railroad bridges as well as many miles of roadways across the U.S. Our staff has the full array of federal and state certifications and registrations required to work with various state departments of transportation, public agencies and private developers. Our inspectors collaborate with designers to develop a deep understanding of the objectives and challenges unique to each project, to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget.
We maintain an experienced, dedicated staff for on-site observation and monitoring through the construction process. We tailor our role in the process to fit the project type and the expectations of our clients. Our trained specialists provide a consistent level of management on each project, fully integrating their responsibilities for construction quality assurance with the design team. Responsibilities:

Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking Construction Inspectors specifically with previous Bridge inspection experience to join our team and work on various MDOT and/or local agency projects! This position is located in the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, MI areas.

Our inspectors collaborate with designers to develop a deep understanding of the objectives and challenges unique to each project, to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget.

- Oversee, document, and verify the work and daily activities of road and bridge construction crews to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans
- Monitor and document work zone and traffic control operations
- Complete Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) for assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment and materials incorporated into the project
- Take measurements, calculate quantities, and perform engineering related computations
- Operate relevant material testing equipment
- Provide technical assistance and help resolve challenges related to the construction operations
- Attend pre-construction meetings and progress meetings
- Help coordinate project start-up activities
- Assist with in-service bridge inspections and bridge project scoping
- High School diploma is required; Associate degree in civil technology or related field is desired
- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license
- Minimum 5 years of related bridge construction experience is preferred
- Knowledge of MDOT specifications is a plus
- Able to work in a team environment and have good communication skills
- Basic computer knowledge/skills
- MDOT Certifications required
- Ability to climb ladder and use lift
