Department Information


The Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW), founded in 1911, is a university-wide system school with CSWE-accredited MSW and BSW Programs since 1923 and 1975 respectively, reaffirmed in 2021. School headquarters are located in Indianapolis at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) with programs on 7 IU campuses. IUSSW enrolls approximately 1,800 students across programs (PhD, MSW, BSW) and campuses.

Job Summary


Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversees and administers grant preparation, grant submission, departmental commitments, regulatory compliance, and post award account management for Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW).
  • Oversees grants including external awards as well as IU awards and IUSSW awards.
  • Facilitates the execution of external contracts for IUSSW.
  • Compiles documents necessary for submission for the Office of Research Administration.
  • Prepares monthly account reconciliation to analyze and monitor budgets and expenses.
  • Analyzes faculty support on grants, approving course buy-outs.
  • Provides accrual and analytical reporting for Principal Inverstigator's (PI).

General Responsibilities

  • Advises faculty on long-term financial viability of department/center given multiple grants and contracts from various sources with differing project end dates.
  • Locates and identifies sources of outside funding on own accord.
  • Develops budget proposals and monitors the resulting awards received for academic and research projects and programs.
  • Interprets regulations and guidelines of multiple programs funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending.
  • Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligations.
  • Requests or approves amendments to contract terms or contract extensions.
  • Prepares bids or request for proposals (RFPs), including specifications and requirements; negotiates contract terms and participates in the determination of acceptable bids.
  • Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, university policies/procedures and federal/state regulations.

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary


$70,000 - $72,000
