About the Role

Control Room Operator – NGV Interconnectors – Warwick

As our Control Room Operator, you will be part of a team who is responsible for remotely monitoring and controlling the operation of our North Sea Link and Viking Link HVDC electricity interconnectors, connecting Great Britain with Norway and Denmark respectively.

You will play an essential role in the 24/7 real-time operation of these interconnectors, whilst gaining additional knowledge and experience of the technical and commercial activities which underpin our operations.

What you'll be getting up to

As part of a shift-based team, your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Remotely monitoring and controlling the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our interconnectors.
  • Understanding and promptly responding to asset alarms and safety warnings.
  • Communicating and coordinating with on-site colleagues who undertake maintenance, investigation and resolution of asset faults.
  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures and safety rules.
  • Working closely with the stakeholders, partners and service providers who support our activities.

About You

We highly value the behaviours, attitudes and skills which will help you to develop and excel in this role. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Can perform duties safely on their own, using procedures and without direct supervision.
  • Can remain continuously alert, attentive and ready to respond to any operational situation.
  • Is naturally inquisitive and will proactively seek to investigate situations where data is inconclusive, inconsistent or beyond their current level of understanding.
  • Can interpret a range of operational data and draw conclusions on the action to be taken.
  • Has a proactive approach and can utilise taught operating principles to anticipate abnormal and critical conditions not necessarily identified by an alarm.
  • Has an aptitude for using computer systems, with basic information technology skills
  • Can travel to other UK and European locations occasionally during training and in exceptional operational situations.
  • Is happy to work rotating shift patterns, 24/7, 365 days a year, including weekends and holiday periods.

What's in it for you?

  • A competitive salary of £35,775 - £42,088 + an additional 26% shift allowance (after initial training)
  • 25 days annual leave (increasing to 26 after two years’ service) plus eight statutory days
  • The option to buy additional or sell holiday days
  • Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role.
  • Access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
  • Access to apps that support health, fitness and wellbeing.

Plus…

  • You keep learning and growing in your field. Pick a training course, attend a conference of your choice. Get inspired. In addition, we will teach you everything you need to know about the energy industry.
  • We work with flat hierarchies – talk to anybody at any time.
