Summary of Position:

The controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The Controller prepares monthly financial statements, including supporting schedules and analysis. The Controller is responsible for establishing accounting practices and policies, and the maintenance of its fiscal records, and ensuring that such policies are properly documented and followed. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls and cash management.

Job Duties / Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, focusing on the department’s month end closing procedure, timeline and accuracy.
  • Coordinates and administers an adequate plan for the control of operations. Such a plan provides profit planning, sales forecasts, expense analysis, accounts receivable, cost standards and saving opportunities, together with necessary controls and procedures to effectuate the plan.
  • Forecasts short-range and long-range cash requirements and obligations, as a basis for maintaining adequate funds.
  • Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal control, internal auditing, and ensuring proper insurance coverage.
  • Keeps the CFO informed of the businesses performance and provides advice on all financial matters.
  • Executes cash disbursements for payment of corporate and operational expenditures in accordance with disbursement policies.
  • Assures that the duties, responsibilities, and authority of each job are clearly defined, effective and communicated.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Monitors the performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling.
  • Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, and take advantage of opportunities.
  • Managing the company’s year-end financial audit and interim tax planning.
  • Other responsibilities include: seeing that the company policies are carried out or complied with; compliance with local, state and federal governmental reporting requirements and tax filing; other departments in forecasting personnel and financial needs, and overseeing bank balances and cash needs.

  • Experience dealing with multiple entities & Interco transactions
  • Experience with a Canadian subsidiary a plus.

Required Education / Certifications:

  • BS/BA in Accounting
  • CPA or Master Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience, ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions within finance.
  • A minimum of 2 years recent experience as a Controller, with responsibility for financial reporting and analysis, and management of the accounting department.
