Summary

The controller is responsible for much of the day-to-day tasks and oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities.  The controller supports operations with accounting and financial reporting. In addition, the Controller is responsible for managing, coaching, and developing a high-performing team.

Your duties will include

  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Perform or direct the performance of multi-state service bureau level payroll tax compliance functions which can include processing tax notices, client setups, monthly/quarterly/annual filings, client services, POA’s, state registrations and client onboarding.
  • Conduct or coordinate the analysis of multi-state service bureau level payroll tax data and perform calculations, ensuring that payroll information is reported accurately to federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Evaluate, train, manage, and mentor team members with their assigned tasks to foster exceptional levels of efficacy and engagement.
  • Delegate authority for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of client trust accounts, company funds, securities, and financial instruments.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of client trust accounts, company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, banking, insurance, and external accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure that accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAAP and government regulations.

  • High proficiency in Excel data analysis tools, pivot tables, Macro and VBA functions
  • Proficiency in other Microsoft suite of products

  • Salesforce preferred

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures
  • Four plus years of advanced level accounting experience
  • Two plus years of supervisory experience
  • Must be customer service oriented and demonstrate a positive attitude and a friendly demeanor
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible and resourceful
  • Experience working with a fast-growing company
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Excellent leadership, with a history of hiring and developing high-performing teams
