This temporary position is located in Durham, NC - Durham County.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).


This temporary position will be assigned to the NC Department of Health and Human Services. DSOHF - Central Regional This position is located at 3132 Roxboro Street Durham NC 27704.

The Cook II is the only full-time food service position and is critical to accomplishing the Wright School Food Service Mission: At Wright School kids learn to eat a variety of delicious, nutritious, attractive foods that are prepared in a clean, well equipped kitchen and served in an environmentally sustainable, child friendly dining room.

The Cook II’s primary responsibility is to prepare and serve 13 weekly meals and 13 weekly snacks, in a clean organized kitchen/pantry, for the 24 children in the treatment program. The cook produces daily documentation of service for breakfast and lunch based on federal Child Nutrition guidelines.
The cook participates, with a flexible work team, in menu and recipe making, ordering, inventory and cleaning the kitchen/pantry, monitoring for sanitation and a variety of quality assurance and quality improvement activities.

The work schedule:
Monday Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
7:00am – 6:00 pm 10 hours with a sixty-minute lunch

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation and Food Safety procedures and food preparation, storage and clean- up .
  • Ability to interpret and follow standard recipes and menus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School Graduate or Equivalent Education and/ three years experience food service operations.
